Spread-spectrum wireless data networks are popular because of their fast deployment. However, poor signals are a common difficulty. Our patented Parallel Decode technology works to solve the problem of poor signals caused by Multi-Path fading, giving you a license-free wireless network with more reliability.
Multi-Path fading occurs when radio waves arrive at a receiving antenna over routes of different lengths. Since the waves are arriving at different times they interfere with each other, creating a poor, distorted signal.
Some signals arrive directly to the antenna and some are reflected from buildings, terrain, and vehicles. Reflection causes even strong signals to become distorted. With Parallel Decode, Dataradio has combined Spatial Diversity and Smart Combining to help eliminate fading without the need of repeaters.
Spatial Diversity is the use of two receivers and antennas. Even the slightest difference in position of the antenna can make a dramatic difference in signal strength. Parallel Decoding doesn’t choose one signal over the other like the method of Switching Diversity instead both signals are used. Two weak signals can be combined into one usable signal extending the range of the Phantom-900.
“Parallel Decode is kind of like 4 wheel drive, when you get into tougher weather you notice a big difference,” said Mark Christensen Director of Product Development. “When you need the second antenna most, it will be the most effective.”
Since two parallel signals are available, they can be utilized for the best combination. The features of Smart Combining and Parallel Decode take the two signals and put them together in the most efficient way possible. How they will be combined depends on the strength and the trend of each signal.
With both Spatial Diversity and Smart Combining, Parallel Decode ensures the Phantom-900 will have a much higher rate of messages received on the first attempt. This reduces the number of retransmissions, increases throughput, and shortens response times making the Phantom-900 not only more reliable, but also saves you time and money.
