Dataradio’s Network Management System (NMS) provides a proactive system management tool for data network administrators. Base Station monitoring is provided though an IP connection or a serial link, real-time system information is collected for immediate display and for database storage, and system administrators are given the tools to observe and analyze the information stored in the database. The NMS allows users to build custom queries for their unique requirements and compare critical network status conditions against user specified thresholds sending e-mail or pager alerts when problems occur. Dataradio’s NMS provides the mechanism to assure the reliability necessary in mission-critical public safety systems.

NMS Components

The NMS is made up of these major components:

The Network Management Information Server collects network information from the Paragon Base, Gemini mobiles and MSC in real-time to report the network’s status. The Remote Client Probe application runs on systems with an MSC to report on operating parameters and communication link status from network remotes.

The Base Station Monitor is an optional Paragon component that provides hardware diagnostic information about base station operation. The Base Station Monitor can connect through an Internet or serial link.

The Mobile Diagnostics component is a firmware feature of Gemini mobiles that can gather and communicate hardware diagnostic and message statistics to the NMS. This information is sent using a unique out-of-band signaling technique that has no affect on the data-carrying capacity of the channel.

The Network Management System Report Generator allows users to interact with the NMS database to extract analytical information without the need for detailed database programming knowledge. This tool also permits users to design custom queries that can be saved in the database for future use. Multiple NMS Report Generators can communicate over an IP network with the database. The NMS is packaged with one Report Generator. Additional copies may be purchased to accommodate larger system needs.
