Dataradio’s third generation private networks utilize SNMP as the network management mechanism. The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a network management standard widely used in TCP/IP networks.SNMP is based on the manager/agent model, the SNMP manager being responsible for obtaining and processing the information. Each Dataradio G3 network component (mobiles and bases) implements an SNMP agent and has the capability to interface into SNMP-managed networks. The SNMP manager and agent use a Management Information Base (MIB), a logical, hierarchically organized database of network management information. The SNMP agents of each Dataradio G3 network component (mobiles and bases) implement the functionality of the corresponding device MIB.
Dataradio’s optional SNMP-based Network Management module is a powerful, flexible network solution that gathers and organizes “Component” and “Capability” operating information and network message statistical information. It is designed for both small and large systems and can be used for collecting and recording operating data, hardware diagnostics, and usage statistical data.
Dataradio NMS-SNMP Suite features the SNMP Poller Service that periodically polls and collects diagnostic and statistical data from Paragon3 units, and automatically forwards it to an NMS database. Most of-the-shelf SNMP managers impose constraints on the data types being polled and exported into a database (e.g.: static and integers data types only).
The DR poller is designed to honor these constraints by assuring that (a) both static and dynamic parameters, such as MDIAGs (mobile diagnostics) are successfully polled and exported to an SQL database, and (b) all data types, including parameters of type “String”, are successfully polled and exported to an SQL database.
System Components
NMS for G3 Networks is made up of these major components:
![]() |
SNMP Manager - An SNMP network manager is used to retrieve diagnostic and statistical data from Paragon3 units and to display that data to the end user. Displays Paragon3 & GeminiG3 alarms, forwards them to an NMS database, and issues e-mails and/or pages to service personnel. It includes a MIB browser, allowing the user to monitor Dataradio components in real time.

Dataradio SNMP Poller Service - Dataradio developed SNMP Poller service works as a background process on the local server, periodically polling & collecting diagnostic/statistical data from Paragon3 units, and automatically forwarding it to an NMS database.

Dataradio MIBs - Dataradio MIB files are provided as a software component that is then compiled into the SNMP manager in order to identify the managed objects in the Dataradio devices.

NMS Database - SQL Server 2005 The NMS database is hosted on Microsoft® SQL Server 2005. It stores diagnostic and system operating data.

Report Generator - Once the data is stored in the database, a report generator is used to query, retrieve and process database information, and generate reports. It tabulates results and graphs information for easy interpretation. Dataradio provides eight basic report templates.
