CalAmp and LoJack have released the 2015 LoJack Corporation Study On Construction Equipment Theft. It provides an annual snapshot of heavy equipment theft and recovery based on LoJack proprietary theft and recovery data within LoJack coverage areas (visit lojack.com/coverage). The infographic summary is available here. You may download the full twelve page report here(PDF).

This study is a great topline look at construction theft and recovery. However, we couldn’t include everything and you might be interested in some of the additional data. From the most common manufacturers targeted by thieves, we pulled a few extra details to give you the top eleven for 2015:

  • 1. Bobcat (25.3%)
  • 2. John Deere (15.4%)
  • 3. Multiquip (6.2%)
  • 4. Caterpillar (5.9%)
  • 5. CASE (5.5%)
  • 6. Magnum (4.2%)
  • 7. Doosan (3.5%)
  • 8. Takeuchi Manufacturing (3.1%)
  • 9. Ingersoll-Rand (2.9%)
  • 10. Miller Electric Manufacturing (Arc Welder) (2.6%)
  • 11. Lincoln Electric (Welder) (2.6%)

For types of equipment stolen, you saw the top five most popular assets listed in the study. However, we thought having a bit more information might be useful. Below are the top eight taken most often (remember that the percentages are rounded).

  • 1. Towables (33%)
  • 2. Wheeled and tracked loaders (28%)
  • 3. Skid loaders (20%)
  • 4. Excavators (7%)
  • 5. UTVs (6%)
  • 6. Booms, Cranes and Forklifts (3%)
  • 7. Tractors (2%)
  • 8. Bulldozers (1%)
